Falcom potentially confirms Ys IX to be in development

Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo confirmed in an interview that they’re currently developing a new Ys game, which could be potentially be Ys IX.

In an interview with french magazine ActuGaming, Kondo mentioned they’re working on a game that takes place after Ys VIII:

Regarding the Ys series, we are working on a new game,

It will not be a remake but a brand new title. It will be about Adol and it will be right after the events of Ys VIII. I hope you will look forward to it.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is the latest title in the long running Ys series and got its initial release on the PSP in 2016 in Japan. The game was later ported to the PS4 in 2017 and the Nintendo Switch and PC in 2018.

Developers Falcom’s latest project is The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV which releases for PS4 on September 27 in Japan. This leaves the famed JRPG developer to work on a new Ys title, which comes out every three years or years according to their recent releases. Expect an official announcement around TGS in September.
