Bethesda Softworks has released a new patch for Fallout 4 on the PS4 and Xbox One. As promised by Bethesda Softworks, this patch improves game performance and general stability. More importantly, Bethesda Softworks has managed to increase the object LOD (leve-of-detail) in the game which actually makes the game more pleasing to look in the open world and adds more variety to the environment.
In case you missed the original E3 reveal, it showed some nice draw distance for the game which was toned down for the launch of the game on PS4 and Xbox One. You can see a comparison between E3 reveal and the vanilla version of the game below.
Notice how the PS4 version looks quite barren in comparison to the E3 reveal. This was due to the toned download level of detail across the distance. All of the missing shadows, grass and structure are actually present on PS4, but it cannot be seen from a distance.
The latest patch for Fallout 4 has managed to rectify this issue, even if it happened a few months after launch. Below you can see similar area from the E3 reveal in screenshot compared with the same scene in patch 1.3.
While this might look like a minor difference, it actually has an impact on the overall tone of the game. There is a dramatic difference when we compare patch 1.2 side by side with patch 1.3. You can notice this in the comparison below.
Fallout 4 is out now on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. It was developed and published by Bethesda Softworks.
