Fallout 76 has been updated on the PS4 to version 1.02, and it has also received an update on the PC and Xbox One.
This is the second major update for Fallout 76 after its launch. The first one was released right after the beta test ended while details about this update including patch notes were shared earlier. As for the download size of this update, it is roughly 48 GB on PS4 and Xbox One. I cannot verify the file size for the PC version but just looking at the PS4 and Xbox One version, it is completely absurd to me that Bethesda Softworks is still giving users such a large download as an update. We have taken this image from the Xbox One version which shows the patch download size.
Fallout 76 had a day one update to version 1.01 on PS4. This update was roughly 51 GB in size. This also made the retail disc useless because it only copied around 250 MB of data from the disc as seen on Xbox One. The rest had to be downloaded as an update. Since this is an online-only game, the need to update the game before playing makes some sense since servers need the latest version of the game.
Update: Full set of patch notes for Fallout 76 update version 1.02 can be read from here. They include performance optimization and other bug fixes.
What is not okay is how Bethesda Softworks is rolling out all these updates. The second update is almost 48 GB, which is unacceptable. Even if it is simply replacing files instead of adding to it, this is terrible practice and should be avoided at all cost.
Fallout 76 is available now on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
