Great news for Final Fantasy fans, looks like you won’t have to wait long to get your Final Fantasy fix after all. In an interview with game director Hajime Tabata IGN learned that Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is 80% complete, so development is certainly nicely underway.
Final Fantasy Type-0 has gone through a long and weird journey. The game initially started off as a mobile game called Final Fantasy Agito, but was later scrapped because the project proved to be too ambitious and the smartphone technology at the time couldn’t handle it. The project was moved to the PSP, later in its development Agito was renamed to Tyoe-0. After its release in Japan on the PSP, the game never showed up on western shores. Many speculated that it was maybe due to the PSP being a dead market by the time of Type-0’s release but Square Enix has never officially commented on it.
After years of waiting a bunch of fans decided to fan translate the game. Months later Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Type-0 HD one day after the fan translation was released on the internet. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD doesn’t have a release date yet, but since the game is practically complete and remastering is 80% done, it would be safe to say that we’ll be playing it sometime next year. Final Fantasy Type-0 will be release on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
