Final Fantasy XII Doesn’t Seem To Run At 4K On Xbox One X Contrary To Earlier PR Claims

Final Fantasy XII

Final Fantasy XII is available now on the Xbox One X. The game was marketed as offering 4K and 60 FPS on the Xbox One X but only one of the claims has turned out to be true with 4K nowhere to be found.

Digital Foundry has shared a technical analysis of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age running on the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. They confirm the resolution and frame rate of the game on both new platforms.

Back when Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age was announced for the Xbox One X, the official Square Enix PR only talked about 60 FPS support. Most fans assumed that the game will also come with 4K support just like the PS4 Pro version, which runs at 30 FPS but with a 1440p resolution. This hasn’t turned out to be the case here.

The resolution of Final Fantasy XII has been found to be running at 1080p on the Xbox One X. It is the same resolution as the Xbox One but with a higher frame rate. Xbox One runs it at 30 FPS like the base PS4 while the PS4 Pro supported 1440p at 30 FPS.

Nintendo Switch owners have to reportedly deal with a dynamic resolution setup that runs at 30 FPS and stays below native 1080p in docked and native 720p in the portable mode. It is a fine version if you want a portable Final Fantasy XII experience.

Coming to the release of Final Fantasy X on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, it supports 4K at 30 FPS on the Xbox One X while the rest of the consoles get their native resolution. This means 1080p on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in docked while 720p in portable mode. All of these run at 30 FPS just like the original PS4 and PC release.
