Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata opens JP Games

Final Fantasy XV Director and Luminous Studios COO and Studio Head Hajime Tabata announced the establishment of his own company today called JP Games.

Tabata is apparently targeting a January 2019 release for the studios’ first project on Facebook, which seems surprisingly quick turn around for a first project.

I started up my own company called “JP GAMES,Inc.”
Right now, we are preparing for a target January 2019 launch.
And to everyone who has assisted me until today–I kindly ask for your ongoing support.

Tabata left Square Enix on October 31 in a completely shocking announcement on a much hyped Final Fantasy XV livestream that was supposed to update fans on the development of the game’s upcoming DLC. The DLC was subsequently cancelled.

The news was especially surprising as Square Enix had given Tabata his own studio that was supposed to be working on an original next-gen AAA title. Tabata has been historically been brought in to save tough projects like Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, Parasite Eve: The Third Birthday and of course Final Fantasy XV.

Tabata is for sure a super talented director and we wish him all the best.
