  7. Final Fantasy XIII (7,700,000)
  8. Final Fantasy XII (7,200,000)

XV and XIII have always had a troubled relationship, with even series fans choosing sides over the games. XV was previously known as Versus XIII and was set to be part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis sub-series along with XIII and Agito XIII. The latter was later released as Final Fantasy: Type-0.

XIII was often blamed for taking away development resources from the Versus project by fans. Versus XIII was touted to be a better game even though it wasn’t released with fans being only shown a rough concept.

XIII later spawned two sequels, with fan outrage hitting new heights as years would go on without any Versus XIII news.

Versus XIII was however rebooted in 2013 as the game went through 6 years of development hell after being announced back in 2006. The game was eventually taken over by Hajime Tabata; replacing Tetsuya Nomura who was the Director and created the whole story concept. Tabata previously worked as director of games like Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and the previously mentioned Type-o. He is now working on a brand new IP at Luminous Production as Studio Lead.

A lot of content has been released for the game, with over 25 patches released so far, each adding or adjusting something new. A Second set of DLC content is also planned for 2019.

Final Fantasy XV released for PS4 and Xbox One on November 29, 2016. The game was re-released on March 6, 2018 as Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition. A version for PC was also released called the Windows Edition. There’s also a mobile “Pocket Edition” version of the game which recently released on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch after being originally released for smartphones.
