Epic Games has recently conducted a talk at the Games Developer Conference where they shared some details around the development of Fortnite on the consoles. According to a slide shared by Epic Games, they confirmed the target resolution and frame rate for the various console hardware including the Xbox One X.
The important thing to notice here is the dynamic resolution scaling technique that they have utilized for Fortnite Battle Royale on the consoles. They recently released an update that implemented 60 FPS support on all platforms but the upper bound of resolution is still limited to 1800p on the Xbox One X while on the PS4 Pro, it can only hit 1080p.
Interestingly, the resolution scaling and limit is almost the same for both the PS4 and PS4 Pro compared to the huge difference for the Xbox One and Xbox One X. This doesn’t mean both the PS4 and PS4 Pro run it at the same visual settings since there are improvements to the graphics on the PS4 Pro with tweaks to the level of detail and shadows.
Fortnite Battle Royale is an incredibly popular free to play game that has managed to outpace its competitor, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. It is currently available free to play on the PC, PS4, Xbox One and it is also launching soon for the iOS and Android.
