God of War will launch on April 20th for the PS4. It also comes with a limited edition PS4 Pro console that was recently confirmed by Sony after leaking earlier by a European retailer. The limited edition PS4 Pro is a complete customized console with its own controller design.
In the blog post detailing the limited edition PS4 Pro, Sony has also confirmed the resolution and features offered by God of War on the PS4 Pro.
When played on PS4 Pro with a 4K TV, God of War outputs in a dynamic 4K resolution achieved through a 2160p checkerboard. Players with 1080p HDTVs will also benefit from increased image clarity via supersampling of a higher resolution onto their display. Across all PS4s, God of War also features HDR lighting and a wide color gamut for those with TVs that support HDR.
This seems to be similar to Horizon Zero Dawn so don’t expect to see any improved graphical features on the PS4 Pro compared to the base PS4 version. As for the limited edition version of console, it was showcased in the trailer linked below.
God of War is being developed by Sony Santa Monica Studios. The game is directed by Cory Barlog, who has also worked on God of War 2. It is a re-imagining of the God of War series essentially being a reboot gameplay wise while retaining the story continuity and protagonist as Kratos. The mythology has also been changed from Greek Mythology to Norse Mythology making for an exciting new world and potential of epic boss battles.
