The newest box art for current Xbox One exclusive Halo 5: Guardians seems to hint that the game could be coming to PC.
Microsoft tends to use two box art labels to inform fans that the game is exclusive to their platforms:
“Only on Xbox One” means a game is only available on the Xbox One.
“Xbox One Console Exclusive” on the other hand means the game is console exclusive to Xbox One but also available on PC (mostly through their Windows 10 Store).
Earlier today the box art for Halo 5: Guardians was updated notifying fans that it’s now just a console exclusive.
Games like Quantum Break and Forza Horizon 3, which were released on both PC and Xbox One, had the “Xbox One Console Exclusive Banner”. On the other hand games like Sunset Overdrive, which is only available on the Xbox One, sports the “Only on Xbox One” tag. We’ve seen updated banners for games that would be released later so this looks pretty legit.
An announcement could be made any day since retails have the new box arts.
This is the second time that Microsoft has “teased” the game. Back in June the game’s official website showed it to be available on Windows 10, but Frank O’Connel, franchise director of Halo, debunked this immediately to be a mistake.
Sorry guys that’s an error. That’s two innacurate Halo stories this morning but understandable. It’s not impossible H5 could come to PC one day but it’s not being worked on at this time. Black and white, no semantic trickery.
He never said no right?
The Last Halo game to come out for PC was Halo 2 back in 2007, making it 11 years since a mainlaine Halo title has released for PC.
Halo 5: Guardians was released back in 2015 for the Xbox One and is the second game by the series’ new developers 343 Industries. Original developers of the series left after their work on Halo 3 and are currently handling Destiny for Activision.
Although the game outsold Halo 4 on release, it is the lowest rated mainline Halo game. 343 Industries are currently working on Halo: Infinite, the sixth entry in the main story.
