Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice Has To Sacrifice A Lot Of Visual Effects On Nintendo Switch, Runs At 720P

Hellblade: Senua’ Sacrifice was a visual tour de force when it launched for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is out now on the Nintendo Switch but how well does it run?

Digital Foundry has taken a look at Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice running on the Nintendo Switch. Contrary to earlier reports, Hellblade looks impressive in cutscenes because they are apparently pre-rendered game files. In real-time gameplay, the game is less impressive because of a change in the lighting engine and a resolution that is dynamic and tops out at 720p.

In many ways, this is a rather impressive port that also manages to run at 30 FPS and plays out fine, but once you get to know what happens under the hood, it becomes clear there was a lot of sacrifices made to get the port running in this shape. It is still impressive to see the game running on a portable and it doesn’t ruin the experience that much.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is out now for the Nintendo Switch. It was developed by Ninja Theory and launched as a timed exclusive for PS4 and PC and was later ported to the Xbox One X.
