Hideo Baba and Square Enix have announced the developer’s exit from the company.
Baba joined Square Enix back in 2016 to lead new subsidiary Studio Istolia as company president. He was leading development on a brand new RPG IP called “Project Prelude Rune”, a PS4 exclusive title.
Square Enix revealed today that Baba had left his position at Studio Istolia back in December 2018 and formally completed his exit from Square Enix at the end of last month.
In the press release Baba stated that he resigned from his position and quit the company due to “the change in Studio Istolia’s management policies…” He further thanked Square Enix for the opportunity as he promised to support them “from the shadows”.
Baba, before joining Square Enix, had been heading Bandai Namco’s Tales of franchise since 2006 as Brand Manager and Producer. The last game he worked on was Tales of Zestiria, which received a lukewarm reception from fans and the press. Baba leaving Namco Bandai came as a surprise to everyone back in 2016 as he was considered one of the pillars of the company. He did not give a reason for his departure at the time.
Hideo Baba did not share any plans for the future. What do you think? Where do you think he’ll end up? Let us know in the comments below.
