Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn has a production budget of around $47 million revealed in an interview with a Dutch newspaper. The developers have also revealed the team size for the game, which peak team of around 250 people along with 100 more related to outsourcing assets.
Horizon Zero Dawn is a PS4 exclusive from Guerrilla Games, based in Amsterdam. They are known for their work on the Killzone series and Horizon was their first open world action RPG. This budget might appear to be relatively low compared to other open world RPGs but keep in mind that this doesn’t cover the marketing budget for the game.
The information was revealed in an interview by Dutch national news paper (via NeoGAF). The production budget is listed at $47 million while the peak for the developers working on the budget was 250. They also outsourced many of the assets to China.
Horizon Zero Dawn has been in development since the release of Killzone 3 so this budget figure appears to be rather low compared to the production timeline. Perhaps it doesn’t really give us the full budget including the marketing expenses but it is still nice to know that the project might be able to recoup its development cost.
Horizon Zero Dawn is out now on the PS4 and will be released in EU on March 1st.
