VLC is a popular multimedia player that is finally available for the Xbox One, thanks to the ability to play universal Windows 10 applications.
VLC is popular because of the wide variety of video formats it supports including support for built-in subtitles, DLNA, HECV and hi-10 multimedia format. It is considered easy to use with a user-friendly UI and controls.
The Xbox One version of the application is barebone in term of features since it is still in early development, but it is a step in the right direction, and shows promise for the future.
In order to get VLC application for your Xbox One, you will need to head over to this link for the VLC app on the Windows 10 store. You have to start the download for the application from there by getting it on the store. The application will then appear on the apps list in the dashboard on the Xbox One. It is around 3 MB in size and appears to be a work in progress.
Xbox One has support for some of the Windows 10 applications that are marked as Universal apps. VLC is one of them and there are potentially more apps in development for the Xbox One and Windows 10.
