Square Enix officially announced Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue today at the SCEJA Press Conference, the title is headed to the Playstation 4. The compilation will include three titles: HD Remastered version of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, ‘Movie’ version of Kingdom Hearts X [chi] Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage.
Dream Drop Distance was initially released on the Nintendo 3DS and was absent from the previously released Remasters on the PS3. X [chi] Back Cover will show scenes crucial to the game’s lore and will be similar to how 358/2 days and Re:Coded were presented in the HD Remasters. Finally Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage will tell the story of Aqua after the events of the PSP title Birth By Sleep. A Fragmentary Passage is described as a “Short Story” and looks to be made on Unreal Engine 4. The story will connect directly to Kingdom Hearts 3.

Just a few days ago a certain Kingdom Hearts 2.9 was rumoured which would have included previously Remastered titles for the Playstation 4. With the announcement of 2.8 however we can debunk that rumour as false but it would’ve been nice to have all those games playable on the Playstation 4 as well.
Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue is in development for the Playstation 4 and does not have a confirmed release date yet although we fully expect it to release next year. With the way Square Enix have compiled the games and are putting in an effort to wrap up the story, Kingdom Hearts III could very well release in 2017. What did you think of the trailer and announcement? Lets discuss in the comments below.
