Kratos in Shovel Knight confirmed Canon

Kratos from God of War made an appearance as a boss in 2014’s Shovel Knight. God of War Director Cory Balrog confirmed Kratos’ appearance to be be Canon in a panel at the on-going San Diego Comic-Con.

Balrog confirmed that Kratos’ appearance in the game took place during his journey from Greece to Scandinavia.

Yacht Club Games’ Shovel Knight was a huge success in its own right when it came out. The game featured an exclusive boss fight on the Playstation version which turned out to be Kratos. When you think about it, Balrog certainly left a lot of clues regarding the games’ setting in the stage, which was covered by snow and had a mountain at the back.

Kratos’ final line to Shovel Knight is also a huge hint where he says: “My fate lies… elsewhere.”

Everyone was like, ‘Really? You wanna still use Kratos? You should use somebody else, you should start a new one… What, is Kratos just going to put a backpack on and head up to Scandinavia?’ And I didn’t tell them at the time, but in my head I went, ‘YES. That is exactly what he is going to do.’ I mean he actually has a backpack and everything. … And here: we made a little deal with Yacht Club Games.

God of War came out earlier this year exclusive to the Playstation 4 and is one of most critically acclaimed and highest selling games of the generation.
