According to one of the developer’s at Square Enix’s Luminous Productions Studio, Square Enix is working on “New AAA Title for PS5”. This is the first hint of Square Enix’s Japan division working on a next-gen title, after numerous clues of their Western developers Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal seemingly confirming active development on titles for the PS5 and the next Xbox.
The news comes from the LinkedIn of a Luminous Production’s 3D Character Model Lead Artist, Tomohiro Tokoro, who previously worked on Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and Final Fantasy XV. The studio was known to be developing a game alongside the recently cancelled DLCs for Final Fantasy XV, so this basically confirms that the game won’t be Final Fantasy like previously speculated and will be for next-gen consoles at the very least.
Hajime Tabata, the Studio Head and COO, recently resigned amidst huge losses by the Japanese gaming giant. The press release stated that the Luminous Production Studio will focus on “large-scale, high-quality AAA game titles”, with the first one we should see of being mentioned in the listing in question. So this is probably the game Tabata was working on before he left the Studio.
Luminous Productions is also apparently working on a mobile game for China, we don’t really know anything other about that for now.
