Marvel’s Spider-Man Potentially Hides A Reference To The Twin Towers

Marvel’s Spider-Man is chock full of easter eggs. There are a lot of references to all forms of media and now fans have discovered another secret in the game.

Twin Towers and Spider-Man has a certain history since the unfortunate event happened near the release of the first Spider-Man film. Sony had to remove all mentions or references to the twin towers in the marketing material and from the film itself.

Now a potential easter egg has been discovered in the game referencing the twin towers. Normally if you roam around the city, this easter egg is hard to see but one Reddit user has shared a video that shows the twin towers in the reflections of a building.

As others pointed out, this could be a simple rendering mistake since the game doesn’t use real-time dynamic reflections on the surface of buildings. The reflections that you see are simple cube maps that give the buildings a reflective surface but not necessarily align with the real-time gameplay. You can’t see the reflection of Spider-Man in certain cases.

Even if this was not intentional, there is still an eerie similarity to the twin towers in the reflections and moreover, when the user climbs to the top of this building, you can clearly see the supposed freedom tower in the background.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is available now exclusively for the PS4. It was developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
