Metro Exodus and Shadow of the Tomb Raider Reportedly Heading To Xbox Game Pass [Update]

Xbox Game Pass might get a lot more attractive next month if this new rumor turns out to be true. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is out on September 14th and according to an Instagram story posted by the official Xbox page, it might launch as a free game to Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Rise of the Tomb Raider is already available to all Xbox Game Pass subscribers so Shadow will be the latest game to join it.

Update: This has now been confirmed to be a case of misleading marketing since this is simply advertising the first game in each series being available now on Xbox Game Pass while also highlighting the upcoming sequel. The same ad was seen for Tom Clancy’s The Division which is also getting a sequel next year. The original story continues below.

Metro Exodus is the second game that has been teased to launch on the same date as its release on Xbox Game Pass. We already know that all future first-party game releases from Microsoft will also come to Xbox Game Pass but this is the first time that we are seeing a large profile third-party game making its way to the Xbox One Game Pass in this way (images via reddit).

Microsoft will host a special Inside Xbox at Gamescom. They are expected to make the announcement for an Xbox Elite Controller version 2 and future titles for the Xbox Game Pass, so perhaps this will be confirmed soon. In any case, it is exciting to see where the future of Xbox Game Pass is headed after launching earlier this year.
