Minecraft Wii U vs. Nintendo Switch Docked and Undocked Screenshot Comparison

Minecraft is releasing soon for the Nintendo Switch. Since this is the first time there is a proper handheld Minecraft being released, there is a lot of excitement surrounding its release.

Minecraft was also released on the Nintendo Wii U where it faced some technical downgrades compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of the game.  The rendering distance was lower why the world limit was also lower compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch appears to target the specs of the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of the game and while it might sound disappointing, it is still one of the best portable version on market once released.

Reddit user amiibolite has shared a comparison of Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch versus Nintendo Wii U. This comparison is interesting in that sense that it compares the Switch version of the game running the game in docked as well as undocked mode against the Wii U version. Surprisingly enough, the Switch version comes ahead in term of rendering resolution against the Wii U. (Top = Switch Docked, Middle = Switch Handheld, Bottom = Wii U)

The game renders at a distance of 10 chunks on both the Nintendo Switch in docked mode and the Wii U, however it has better rendering distance for paintings and items with a resolution of 720p. The undocked mode, which is essentially the handheld version of the game, runs at the same resolution but with a render distance of 7 chunks but retains the increased distance for paintings and items.
