Monolith Soft is known for their Xenoblade series that started with the first game, Xenoblade Chronicles 1 on the Nintendo Wii. It was considered one of the best RPGs to launch last generation and was a critical and commercial success. The success of Xenoblade Chronicles surprised even Nintendo and led to the creation of Xenoblade X, which was a spin-off to the traditional Xenoblade series.
Recently, Monolith Soft’s game director, Koh Kojima reportedly shared an interest in continuing the series in an interview published in the Xenoblade 2 OST booklet. He was talking about not just Xenoblade Chronicles 3 but also Xenoblade Chronicles X sequel, and for creating a new fantasy IP.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the best selling game in the series so far and it continues to do well. Monolith Soft are already hard at work on a brand new project judging from their job posting so far. It should be interesting to see what project they decide to settle on as their next release. They also work on internal projects at Nintendo in the past, they had a hand in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well.
Monolith Soft started their work as a Nintendo exclusive first party developer beginning with Baten Kaitos on the Nintendo GameCube. They didn’t really get into the spotlight until the release of Xenoblade Chronicles so it remains their most important IP so far.
