I was pretty astonished with E3 this year when Microsoft revealed more exclusives than Sony for it’s next-generation console. Normally, one would expect the PlayStation to easily dominate the Xbox when it comes to exclusive games, but Microsoft certainly dealt with that.
However, Sony has revealed that they were deliberately holding back lots of games for Gamescom. For those of you who do not know, Gamescom is a pretty major gaming event in Europe. Some would call it the “European E3”. Turns out that Sony loves Europeans too.
SCEE’s Jim Ryan said that more PS4 games will be announced at Gamescom and that the PS4 would come out in Europe before Christmas this year.
“There’s a lot coming. I’m sure you heard from Shu [Yoshida] that he has 30 games in development. 20 of them are going to ship within the first year of the console’s life, and of those 12 are new IP,” he said. “There’s a lot going on, we need to keep stuff back. We’ve got Gamescom for us Europeans–we need to have something to show at Gamescom, don’t we?”
Since we haven’t heard from developers like Guerrilla Games, Naughty Dog and Media Molecule, I think it’s safe to say that they will be making an appearance at Gamescom.
The event will be held from August 21st to August 25th this year. We can’t wait to see what Sony has in store for us.
