Gamescom 2016 is currently underway and EA has now revealed new information about the previously announced Death Star DLC for their game, Star Wars Battlefront. The DLC will be based around the Death Star, and will bring back space battles to the Battlefront franchise.
The expansion takes the battle into space in the newly announced mode called Battle Station, which takes place over the course of three stages, each with its own unique objectives.
In the first phase, players will pilot X-wings and A-wings against TIE fighters and TIE interceptors, with the main objective being for the Rebels to neutralize enough TIE fighters until the Y-wing support can arrive to weaken the Star Destroyer’s defenses. Once the defenses are down, the Rebels can target weak spots on the Star Destroyer while the Empire players, along with AI ships, proceed to defend it.
Phase 2 will bring the fighting inside the Death Star, with the Rebels being tasked with extracting a droid. This phase will also allow players to take on the role of hero characters Chewbacca and the Trandoshan bounty hunter Bossk.
The third and final phase will throw the players back into space where the Rebels need to end the battle by blowing up the Death Star itself. This time players can step into the shoes of Luke Skywalker, in his Red-5 X-wing, or take control of Darth Vader in his TIE Advanced.
The Death Star expansion comes out this September and will feature new maps, weapons, Star Cards and the above mentioned heroes. It will then be followed by the release of the Rogue One: Scarif DLC some time this holiday season.
