Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo’s best franchises but it hasn’t been doing the best sales wise. If it wasn’t for the success of Fire Emblem: Awakening, the game could have been the last in the series. Luckily that’s not the case anymore as Nintendo is fully focused on future titles in the series. In the recent Nintendo Direct more details were revealed for the New Fire Emblem title for Nintendo 3DS and the much anticipated Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem cross over.
The Next Fire Emblem game in the mainline series was revealed back in January and will be called Fire Emblem if. The game is currently in development for the Nintendo 3DS and will be drastically different from previous titles in the series. Fire Emblem if will have three campaigns, two mainline stories and a side story. The main story will have you choose either the Hoshido or Nohr side towards the middle of the game. Each side will offer a difference experience; the Hoshido side will offer more of the traditional Fire Emblem gameplay while the Nohr side will be tougher and more complex.

This time however the player’s character will be the main hero or heroine of the game and not just a side-kick. Fire Emblem if will be sold in two versions similar to the Pokemon games, each locking you to either side from the get go. The two versions will be called Fire Emblem if: White Kingdom and Fire Emblem if: Black Kingdom. The Digital version will however allow you to chance the game’s version once when you reach the point in the game where you have to make the choice. The third campaign will be sold as DLC. A special edition will also be available that will include all versions of the game along with extras like an art book.
Fire Emblem if is set to release in Japan in 2016, hopefully the localization won’t take too long.
The other game we saw was Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, which is being developed by Atlus. Not much was revealed about the game other than a trailer which showed off the characters, battle system and environments. SMT x FE looks to be set in a modern world like the Persona series.

SMT x FE is currently in development for the Wii U and doesn’t have a release date yet. The game has been in development for quite some time as it was announced back in January 2013.
Both the games look fantastic, the future of the Fire Emblem series sure looks bright! What do you guys think, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
