Nintendo Says They Will Help Publishers With Cross-Play If That’s What They Want

Nintendo is open to cross-play between their platforms and other competitors. Unlike Sony, they are pretty open when it comes to this matter and have recently shared their views on the state of cross-play between Switch and other gaming platforms at a Shareholders meeting.

This comment was made by Senior executive officer Susumu Tanaka. He said that Nintendo is enthusiastic to allow cross-play between other competing platforms. If any publisher has an issue with it, they will help them however it also depends on the other parties agreeing to this support.

We are inclined to do what we can to help publishers incorporate crossplay when that is what they want. The other parties involved also have a say in whether we are able to reach this outcome or not, so we will continue to discuss it with them.

The comments made by Nintendo make it clear that they don’t have any issue with it. Microsoft also echoes similar comments and has reportedly supported the inclusion of cross-play with companies like Nintendo or PC. Sony is the only company that still has strict policies in place for cross-play so it will be interesting to see how long they can hold out against it.

Nintendo Switch has recently received games like Fortnite and Paladins while Rocket League launched last year. These games all support cross-play on the Nintendo Switch allowing its user to play games against the PC or Xbox One. Nintendo also had a great success after the E3 direct with sales doubling the week after E3.
