Nintendo announces new Switch model with improved battery life

Nintendo has announced a new OG Switch model, just a week after the Switch Lite was revealed. The new Switch model will have improved battery life.

The new model, codenamed HAC-001(-01), will be available starting mid-August in North America and Japan, Europe is said to get it a month later in September.

According to Nintendo, the new model will also around two hours more compared to the original model. The original Switch codenamed HAC-001 lasts 2.5-6.5 hours depending on your settings and the type of game. The newer model offers an improved 4.5-9 hours of battery life which is quite a significant jump. Playing heavy games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will get 5.5 hours of gameplay on the new model compared to just 3 of the original.

Comparing these battery life timings with the Switch Lite, codenamed HDH-001, the portable only variant offers 3-7 hours of battery life on average and 4 hours gameplay while playing Breath of the Wild.

The upcoming Dragon Quest XI S Lotto edition was also confirmed to be the new model in the announcement.

Although my Switch is working fine, the higher battery life is really tempting. What about you? Will you be getting the model or upgrading? Or will you be leaning towards the Switch Lite? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
