The previously Nintendo Switch exclusive JRPG, Octopath Traveler, is coming to PC later in June.
A Korean trademark for the game on PC was outed a few weeks ago, but now the existence of a PC port has been confirmed by Square Enix themselves.
Its certainly interesting that this game is getting a PC port since it was published by Nintendo in areas outside Japan. Maybe the exclusivity ran out?
Released worldwide back on July 13, 2018 Octopath Traveler has become one of the biggest surprise hits of recent years. We covered the whole saga extensively in detail where Nintendo and Square Enix massively underestimated the demand for physical copies of the game, with Amazon being backordered for months. The game sold through 90% of its Day 1 shipment in Japan which is almost unheard of, which caused copies of the game to rise in price. Lack of physical copies of the game led to Octopath Traveler becoming the best selling digital game in its launch month worldwide.
Its safe to say the game proved to be a huge indicator for developers and publishers than JRPGs can still sell and sell well.
Square Enix is also currently developing a prequel to the game called Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent for iOS and Android smartphones. A release date for that game hasn’t been announced yet.
Octopath Traveler will be available on PC via Steam and Square Enix Store on July 7. A price has not yet been confirmed but we’ll keep you posted.
