Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir headed to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita; will be “very different” from a HD Remaster

Odin Sphere was one of my favorite games on the PS2 and if you’re a fan like me then you’ll be ecstatic to hear that Atlus and Vanillaware are bringing the game back. Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir is in development for the Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and PS Vita and will release in Japan on January 14 of next year. The game will retail for 7,980 yen and all first print copies will get an exclusive art book.

The developers claim that Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir is more than a simple HD Remaster and will be “very different” from the original release. The game will include a “Classic Mode” for those who want to play the game as it was on the PS2. Others can play the “Refine Mode” which is the re-created game that features a brand new gameplay system.

Below are further changes in the new release detailed on the game’s announcement stream:

  • New Enemies
  • New maps and stages
  • Brand new Alchemy System
  • No need to reply stages anymore
  • Ability to transport between areas
  • New battle system, emphasis on combos
  • Rearranged OST and also new songs from Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics)
  • Faster and more responsive movement
  • New item usage animations

All of this sounds very exciting, now all we have to wait is for Atlus to announce the eventual localization for the game. Looking forward to Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir? Let us know what you think of the game in the comments below.
