With Persona 5 protagonist Joker’s announcement for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate out of nowhere, Persona series fans are wondering what’s next for the series. According to the rumor mill, a complete version of Persona 5 is set to release next year as well as some news on the much awaited Persona 5 Arena.
Before we delve into the rumor itself, first a bit of background. Back in 2017 Atlus registered several domains which included “Persona-Dance,” “P5D,” “P3D,”, “PQ2,”, “P5R” and P5U”. Three of the domains were for the games Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth respectively. The domains “P5R” and “P5U” are supposedly for the upcoming Persona 5 complete version and fighting game.
The rumor stems in from a post on Japan text board 5 Channel (via)which some interesting information on Joker’s Smash Ultimate appearance, and the upcoming games.
The poster started that Joker’s Smash Ultimate stage will be Mementos and Jack Frost will join in with a special skill.
The P5R domain was for a complete version of Persona 5 although the poster didn’t specify any platforms. We’re expecting a Switch release at the very least but a PS4 version is also a possibility. P5R will most likely be called Persona 5 Red, although I personally was hoping for Crimson, which sounded so much cooler right?
P5U is supposedly the fighting game akin to Persona 4 Arena, but instead will be going with a different name starting with a U instead. Any guesses?
Now this is why we think this rumor has some legs to it instead of being another anonymous text board rumor. It was posted on the 10th of December and stated that the Persona 5 fighting game is delayed due to developers Arc System Works working on a Granblue fighting game. Guess what? That game was revealed today.
I’m really hopeful for some more P5 goodness, the game is still one of my favorite games ever, what about you? Are you a fan of P5? Would you be playing these two upcoming games? Let us know in the comments below.
