Sega has announced in their latest financial result that the sales of Persona series have topped 6 million across all of the games. The number should increase further with the release of Persona 5 on the PS3 and PS4 and Persona 4: Dancing All Night on PS Vita in Japan this year.
Persona has slowly crawled its way to popularity starting with games like Persona 3 and Persona 4 on the PlayStation 2. Persona 3 was later ported to the PlayStation Portable followed by Persona 4: Golden on the PlayStation Vita. Persona also got a spin-off fighting game called Persona 4: Arena. The latest entry in the series has now shipped 280 thousand copies across the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The latest two Persona games that are going to be released this year are Persona 4: Dancing All Night, a rhythm based spin-off of Persona 4, and Persona 5, the sequel to the cult and commercial hit Persona 4 and Persona 4: Golden, that was released on the PS2 and PS Vita respectively.
