PlayStation Meeting Event Announced For September 7th, Possible PS4 Neo Reveal

Sony has announced PlayStation Meeting event currently set for September 7th. While the details regarding this upcoming event are scarce, we do have an idea of what to expect from it based on early rumors.

All things point to Sony announcing an improved version of the PlayStation 4 at this PlayStation meeting. This new improved model is currently codenamed as PlayStation Neo and features improved hardware compared to the standard PS4, just like Microsoft is planning to release their Xbox Scorpio in 2017.

PlayStation Meeting will be held on September 7 and starts at 3 p.m. ET at the PlayStation Theater in New York. Keep in mind that Sony similarly revealed the PS4 at a PlayStation Meeting event back in 2013.

PS4 Neo has been rumored for a long time now. It was originally revealed to be a semi-successor to the PS4 hardware with backwards compatibility to PS4. Sony also assured that all PS4 Neo games will be forward compatible with the standard PS4 but there was caveat, the performance or image quality might suffer and Neo having the better hardware meant it could have an improved version of the game.

As for the hardware, the GPU was rumored to contain 4.2 tera flops of power compared to the 1.8 tera flops of the original PS4. There will be upgrades to the CPU and other parts but don’t expect major changes in the core of the hardware because of the need to maintain backwards compatibility.
