Pokemon Go is getting the addition of Shadow Pokemon and Team Go Rocket at Pokestops starting today.
Lorewise, Team Go Rocket has taken over Pokestops and it’s up to the trainers to stop them. However Go Rocket has brought with them Shadow Pokemon, which are super powerful and forced to battle against their choice.
Although Team Leaders and trusty Professor Willow are trying their best to remedy the situation, in the end it’s up to you to defeat Team Go Rocket and rescue the Shadow Pokemon.
Shadow Pokemon come to Pokemon Go!
To take part in the event you’ll need to get to a Pokestop, which will appear discolored. Select one and the evildoers will challenge you to a battle. After winning you’ll be able to catch a Shadow Pokemon, however after catching them they’ll still have Shadow remnants on them. To fix that you’ll need to use Purification, which in-turn allows them to become even stronger than the normal version of the Pokemon. So the goal here is to catch these Shadow Pokemon and Purify them, which’ll result in them being super strong. You’ll also be able to trade these Pokemon ensuring that they’ll function similar to the normal Pokemon after they’re Purified. Super neat!
Shadow Pokemon first appeared appeared in Gamecube titles Pokemon Colosseum (2003-2004) and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (2005) and it’s great to see the concept returning after so long.
