Popular Mac Emulation Wrapper OpenEmu’s new release adds support for 16 new consoles

OpenEmu is an excellent and very popular Emulation Wrapper for Mac that compiles a ton of home and portable console emulators in a single package. The newest major release of OpenEmu (OpenEmu 2.0) has added support for 16 new consoles which include the likes of MAME, Sony PSP and more.

OpenEmu is not only a very functional emulator wrapper but it also looks great, the UI is a thing of beauty, check out some screenshots below:

The newly added consoles include:

  • Atari 5200
  • Atari 7800
  • Atari Lynx
  • ColecoVision
  • Famicom Disk System
  • Intellivision
  • Nintendo 64
  • Odyssey²/Videopac+
  • PC-FX
  • SG-1000
  • Sega CD
  • Sony PSP
  • Sony PlayStation
  • TurboGrafx-CD/PCE-CD
  • Vectrex
  • WonderSwan
  • Mame & Sega Saturn (Experimental release only)

OpenEmu is not very hardware taxing as the PSP emulator is probably the heaviest emulator in the package but the software does require you to have at least Mac OS X 10.11 or above. So if you have any of the recently released Macs, you’re golden.

Also if it was not clear from the text above, the aforementioned software is Mac only. If you’re looking for a good emulation wrapper on Windows then give RetroArch or EmulationStation a try.

You can download the newest release from here for free. Things are looking great for OpenEmu as the developers are working hard to add more consoles including the popular Wii and Gamecube Emulator Dolphin to the wrapper – exciting times!
