Prey has received a new update on the PS4 that finally adds the support for PS4 Pro. The patch notes mention several notable improvements to the visuals including screen space reflections, anisotropy 16x, high quality shadows and improved visual fidelity. It is a nice improvement overall but what about a side by side comparison between the game running on patch 1.03 vs. patch 1.04. We have taken the time to take similar screenshots to compare the visuals and to see if there is a big enough jump in image quality here.
Looking at the screenshot comparison below, lighting and shadows are the two setting that appear to have received the most improvement. The patch notes mention improved textures although it is hard to pinpoint exactly which textures were upgraded here.
(Note: Left = Patch 1.03, Right = Patch 1.04)
While it is a noticeable upgrade overall, it would be nice to have the option to run the game at a higher resolution or frame rate since there is a lot of aliasing in Prey. The game also seems to be optimized really well on PC so it is easier to run at 1080p and 60 fps on a medium spec PC.
Prey is available now for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. You can read our review of the game from here.
