It appears that the PS4 was the best selling console during this Black Friday season, with a total share of 42%, according to Infoscout’s real-time shopper insights. Meanwhile, the Xbox One comes in at a very close second, falling only 1% short of the PS4’s share. In addition, the most popular console bundle this year was turned out to be the Gears of War Xbox One (500GB), which was discounted to $299 by Target, with an extra $60 gift card thrown in to sweeten the deal.
Unsurprisingly, the Wii U’s Black Friday sales were at a distant third place, with a share of 17%. Though, sales for Nintendo’s current generation console have nearly tripled its percentage share from last year, which was around 6%.
For the sake of comparison, here are the Black Friday sale stats from the last two years for each of the aforementioned consoles:
2013
2014
As can be seen from the above data, the PS4’s Black Friday sales have seen a steady rise year-on-year, bringing the console to the #1 spot in 2015.
Meanwhile, as far as software sales are concerned, Black Ops 3 turned out to be the highest selling game during Black Friday, followed by Madden NFL 16 and NBA 2K16 at #2 and #3 respectively. With respect to platform exclusives, the only titles managing to grab the attention of consumers during this year’s Black Friday were Mario Maker, Splatoon, and Halo 5: Guardians. None of the Playstation exclusives were present in the top 20, as can be seen from the sales chart below.
It was also revealed that consoles took a back seat to game sales during Black Friday 2015, though that’s hardly surprising given that the PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U have all been around for over two years.
