PS4 Exclusive Bloodborne Development Time Was Effectively Reduced Using Simplygon

Simplygon is the world’s leading provider of automatic 3D optimization solutions for digital content creation. From Software released their Bloodborne recently on the PlayStation 4 and it wouldn’t have been possible to develop it in such short time if they hadn’t utilized the technology offered by Simplygon.

“Simplygon saved the labor equivalent of 20 man months, or in other words, an entire dedicated production team member for the duration of the production,” said the development team of FromSoftware, Inc. “The benefits are clear as we used the tool to reduce polygons in about 10,000 models ranging from 1,000 to 200,000 polygons. The best result is that players can’t see the reduction because the models keep their fidelity at all distances which keeps the players immersed.” stated an official press release by Simplygon.

It is understandable that the developers choose to optimize the game by reducing polygon count, as it is the case with most games. It is great to know that this reduced polygon count wasn’t noticed by players in the game.

Bloodborne is one of the highest rated console exclusive and it was released earlier this year. It was a joint effort of From Software with Sony Computer Entertainment Japan.
