Sony has released a new firmware update for the PS4 ahead of the release of God of War.
The download size of this new update is around 440 MB. The changelog simply mentions system stability and performance improvements.
Main features in version 5.53 update
- This system software update improves system performance.
While the changelog doesn’t point towards any important features being added here, those who have access to PS4 kernel exploits are talking about Sony potentially fixing an upcoming exploit that could have worked for the latest firmware update. The same thing has happened with the PlayStation Vita firmware that received a new system software update to patch out exploits rendering the Vita open to hackers.
In any case, if you have a PS4 and still want to take it online and continue playing multiplayer, this update is mandatory and needed to get online on the PlayStation 4. The last major firmware update for the PS4 was for system software 5.50 and it launched early this year after going through an extensive beta test. This update also added the ability to run PlayStation 4 Pro supported games with supersampling and implemented it at system level.
