Sony has released a brand new PS4 firmware update version 5.56 today and it doesn’t seem to do anything major aside from offering performance improvements. This is just an official PR talk though since it was usually about ‘system stability’ but they later changed it to a different ‘improves system performance’ once it became a meme.
The download size of this new PS4 firmware update is around 440 MB and it should be live in now most regions. The changelog can be seen below.
Main features in version 5.56 update
- This system software update improves system performance.
This surprise update has happened ahead of the full public release of system software 6.00 for the PS4. This is still in beta testing phase and was recently expanded to Europe with new invites being sent for those who registered for the beta firmware program.
The upcoming major firmware update is for version 6.00 but it won’t really include any important changes, as Sony has clarified it. They did fix the PlayStation Store UI recently with a new update but it was then later retroactively rolled out to the old PS4 firmware users so it doesn’t seem to require a new firmware update.
