Sony has released a new press release confirming the latest sales of PS4, and they appear to have pass over 40 million worldwide.
Last time we heard about the sales figure for PS4 was at the beginning of January when Sony confirmed that the sales have passed 35.9 million worldwide. The updated figures are for the sell-through so this number is sold to customers and they are as of May 22nd, 2016.
“We are truly grateful for the enormous support from our fans and partners across the globe, which helped us achieve this significant milestone in such a short span of time,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “We will strive to deliver even more exciting gaming experiences to our users, further driving the momentum and accelerating the expansion of the PS4 platform and its business this fiscal year by offering an unparalleled line-up of games, bringing our virtual reality system, PlayStation VR, to market and providing ground-breaking features and network services.”
Along with the 40 million hardware sales, we also learn about the software sales which are around 270.9 million units. Sony plans to release many first party releases this year including The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo Sport and Horizon Zero Dawn. They recently released Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End which has sold through more than 2.7 million within a week of its release.
