PS4 Has Sold-Through More Than 70 Million Units Worldwide

Sony has announced today in a press release that the PS4 has sold through more than 70 million units worldwide. It is one of the fastest selling system for Sony surpassing the likes of the PS1 and PS2 and is on its way to outpace the lifetime sales of the PS3 in 5 years. It took the PS3 close to 8 years just to get closer to 80 million sales while the PS4 is already getting near it in half the time.

Sony has also shared some interesting sales figures in their press release confirming that their virtual reality headset, PSVR, has now sold through 2 million units.

  • PS4 has cumulatively sold through more than 70.6M units to consumers worldwide as of December 3, 2017.
  • More than 617.8 million copies of PS4 games have been sold at retail stores globally and through digital downloads on PlayStation®Store as of December 3, 2017.
  • Based on strong momentum of PS4, PS VR cumulatively sold through more than 2M units to consumers worldwide as of December 3, 2017.
  • 150 titles have been released for PS VR, achieving more than 12.2 million copies sold at retail stores globally and through digital downloads on PlayStation Store as of December 3, 2017.

The more surprising result is perhaps the faster sales of PS4 which launched back in 2013, yet managed to sell through more than 20 million in a single year. Back in December 2016, Sony had announced the 50 million sales milestone which is now up to 70 million for worldwide sales.
