One major technical advantage that Fortnite has over PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is the lack of 60 FPS, but this is something that is possible in the future.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) currently runs at 30 FPS on Xbox One S and Xbox One X. The lack of 60 FPS support is incredibly disappointing considering Fortnite manages to achieve this flawlessly and on even weaker platforms. As a competitor to Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) should also start offering 60 FPS support and it will greatly help the gameplay because of the improved controller response.
In a recent post made on Reddit by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) community manager, it was revealed that the developers are indeed working towards achieving this goal. Their first task is to get the game to hit stable 60 FPS and they want to experiment by offering graphical options on consoles.
The ultimate goal is to achieve a stable 60fps, and we’ll continue to optimize to achieve that goal.
At the moment we are not intending to “unlock” the framerate, we’ll need to implement these graphical options first and iterate upon them to see if that would be possible in the future.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is also rumored to launch next month for the PS4. It doesn’t seem to run that well on the regular Xbox One so it will be interesting to see how it is managed on the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is currently undergoing a free-to-play weekend on Xbox One until November 11.
