Red Dead Redemption 2 confirmed to come on two discs for PS4, “Data” Disc and “Play” Disc

As we’ve been covering for a while, it’s almost as good as confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will come on two discs on the PS4. New images of the game’s physical copy shows that the box will have a “Data” Disc and a “Play” Disc.

Supposedly players will have to enter the Data Disc first to install files, then play the game off the Play Disc. Makes sense since the game is 92GB on the PS4 with updates if you download it from PSN. A standard PS4 Blu-ray disc only handles up to 50GB of data, so to fit a game as huge as Red Dead Redemption 2 Rockstar was probably forced to include a second disc.

This makes Red Dead Redemption 2 the first game on PS4 to come on two discs.

Players on PS4 will need to have at least 99GB of free data on their consoles for the physical copy, plus 50GB if they downloaded it from PSN. The Xbox One players will need around 107GB on free space, some extra space taken by those 4K textures I presume.

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases next week on October 26, 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One. Check out the launch trailer here.
