Resident Evil 2 resolution and frame rate have been revealed for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. The game runs at 60 FPS on both platforms.
Resident Evil 2 demo was recently released by Capcom titled as the One Shot Demo. It gives anyone just 30 minutes to play through the opening section of the game while exploring the Racoon City Police Department. It might look like the demo offers a lot more content, but in reality, it is pretty short from the beginning to the end.
The resolution of Resident Evil 2 along with the frame rate was recently confirmed in a technical analysis video made by YouTuber NXGamer. He revealed that Resident Evil 2 runs at a resolution of 2880x1620p on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. The image quality looks much sharper on the Xbox One X and has anti-aliasing in the form of FXAA so it lacks jaggies. The PS4 Pro version appears to be reconstructed so it is not true 4K unlike the Xbox One X, which is native 1620p.
The bigger surprise was that the frame rate of the game is 60 FPS on both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. It also holds up really well on both platforms. While there are minor frame drops on the PS4 Pro, Xbox One X during gameplay is generally solid 60 FPS but can drop in cutscenes. Keep in mind this is an early build of the game so it doesn’t show the whole picture.
If you are curious for the base console version, the PS4 and Xbox One both render at 1080p, but just like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, there is a difference between the native 1080p of PS4 and reconstructed 1080p for the Xbox One leading to a softer image overall. What’s surprising to see is that the base consoles also run the game at an unlocked frame rate that can average out above 40 FPS.
Resident Evil 2 will be out on January 25th, 2019, for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
