Shenmue III gets funded, closes in at $6.3 million

Shenmue is saved folks, we did it. The game we’ve all been wanting for so long, Shenmue III, is fully funded on Kickstarter with the project ending at a massive $6,333,295, blasting through its $2 million goal, making it the highest funded game on the platform. It’s all thanks to the game’s 69,320 backers who now have to relax and wait for the game’s development to finish.

Shenmue III’s Kickstarter started off at Sony’s E3 press conference where it made a surprise appearance shocking many. The project even crashed Kickstarter when it when up as almost everyone watching the conference tried to access the site.


The game also broke the record of being Kickstarter’s most funded game which was recently set by Iga’s Bloodstained. Check out the full list of most funded games on Kickstarter below:

  8. Wasteland 2 – $2.93 million
  9. Elite: Dangerous – £1.57 million
  10. Homestuck Adventure Game – $2.48 million

Shenmue III will once again tell Ryo’s story as he continues his journey to get revenge on his father’s killer. The game is expected to release around December 2017 for PC and Playstation 4.
