Sony has announced in a press release a new sales milestone for the PlayStation hardware. They have confirmed that the PlayStation family of consoles and portable hardware has now sold through more than 500 million units worldwide. This special achievement was achieved with the success of the PlayStation 4 which has a sell-through of 81.5 million units.

Without our passionate community, we would not have been able to surpass this remarkable milestone of 500 million units.” said John Kodera, SIE President and CEO. “PlayStation®4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition has been created to represent our appreciation to our loyal fans. We will continue to make PlayStation the best place to play for all, as does our continued commitment to expanding our library of great games and variety of network services.”
To celebrate this announcement, Sony has also announced a limited edition 2 TB version of the PS4 Pro. This will go on sale from August 24th and will retail for 49,980 yen in Japan, $ 499 USD in North America and €499 in Europe. In addition to this, they are also selling a limited edition wireless controller and gold headset for the PS4 to celebrate this success.
