According to reports, Sony is set to announce its first Smartphone game on December 7. No official statement has been made by the company as of yet, but there are strong reports regarding this issue.
Takashi Mochizuki, Wall Street Journal’s technology reporter, is a very credible source in the market. He posted on his twitter account that Sony Interactive Entertainment will announce software titles and partner companies for its Smartphone game projects on December 7, 16:00. This will only be for the Japan market for now, not a world-wide release.
Sony created its ForwardWorks Studio earlier this year, for the sole purpose of focusing on the Smartphone gaming market. At the time of the announcement, Sony said that this “new company will aim to deliver users with the opportunity to casually enjoy full-fledged game titles in the new field of the smart device market.”
With Nintendo pushing hard to enter this market with an upcoming release of Super Mario Run, Sony has to come up with an answer. Super Mario Run is set to release on December 15, and thus Sony’s announcement of December 7 will be just in time to grab some spotlight from Nintendo.
As mentioned above, there are only reports regarding this announcement for now. Nothing has been said by Sony thus all we can do is wait and watch.
