Sony won’t be attending E3 2019: “continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,”

Sony has announced that they won’t be attending E3 2019. This news comes two months after Sony cancelled their yearly Playstation Experience fan event for 2018.

This marks the first time in the Electronic Entertainment Expo’s 24 year long year that Sony and its Playstation Brand won’t be attending,

Sony told GameInformer that they’re looking for new ways to engage fans:

As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,

PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.

When asked if Sony are considering an off-site event like the recent pre-recorded Nintendo Directs and EA’s shows, PlayStation senior vice president of communications Jennifer Clark made things clear stating “We will not activate or hold a press conference around E3.”

This is certainly interesting and something no one was expecting to be honest. Let’s see how the gaming landscape pans in the coming months, but not having Playstation at E3 will certainly be disappointing.
