Streets of Rage 4 Announced And Yes This Is Not A Joke

In one of the biggest surprise announcements of the year, DotEmu has announced in a partnership with Lizardcube that they are working on a brand new Streets of Rage sequel. This is a shocking announcement for many reasons but let’s just say that for a series that last received a new entry back on Sega Mega Drive, this has taken a long time for sure. The other point of interest is the relation of Sega here and while things are still under wraps, this is no doubt an official sequel featuring the same fan-favorite characters.

Here is the feature list from the official press release. The game is currently listed for unannounced platforms.

  • The comeback of the legendary Streets of Rage series.
  • Beautiful graphics fully hand-drawn animated by the studio behind Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap.
  • Classic gameplay enhanced with brand new mechanics.
  • Braised chicken served on a pristine plate.

Some gameplay footage can also be seen in the reveal trailer while the publisher has shared some screenshots from the game as well. They appear to be hand-drawn visuals and not 16-bit old-school look that fans are used to from the Street of Rage games.

Streets of Rage 4 is currently set for a release sometime in future. The publisher DotEmu hasn’t shared any further details about this project, however, it will support co-op multiplayer which was expected from the nature of this release.
