Tetsuya Nomura created concept art of what his version of the caped crusader would look like (see above) and people seemed to love it. Square Enix’s figurine division Play Arts which makes some of the best statues and figures in the industry made Nomura’s Batman a reality.
As you can see in the gallery below (the Sephiroth figure is just for scale) the Play Arts Kai Batman looks pretty surreal, but in a good way. I love how the Play Arts folk keep an eye for detail in their figures, the extra detail on the hinges and separations on the armor make the figure look much better.
The design reminds me of Bahamut from the Final Fantasy series, which Tetsuya-san had a major influence on as well since he’s responsible for most of the character designs for Square Enix games. Impressed by the figure and want to pick it up? Well you may have to wait since the figure is still in its early prototype phase and Square Enix has not revealed a release date for it yet. Also be prepared to pay a pretty penny for the Play Arts Kai Batman, as such figure can retail for above $100.
