The Last of Us Part 2 Release Year Has Been Leaked, But It Is Likely A Fake

The Last of Us Part 2 release year has been apparently leaked online, but it might not be entirely accurate.

There is a new rumor that is making the rounds online about the release year for The Last of Us Part 2. Sony hasn’t officially committed to a specific release year for the game, so when the rumor started that it will launch in 2019, it had to be taken with a grain of salt.

The Last of Us Part 2 Release Year Rumor Is Likely A Fake One

In order to first talk about the rumor, we have to go to the source of the leak, which happens to be a YouTube channel called ‘PlayStation Music.’ There is an official subsidiary of Sony with the same name, however, in an era where YouTube lets anyone name their channel to what they want, this can be a completely random account and no one will have an idea.

If we examine the output of the channel, it feels rather lacking and only has game soundtracks uploaded on it. There is no blue checkmark that can verify that it is an official channel, as it is the case with the other official PlayStation channels. The subscriber count and video views are also pretty low for such an allegedly official channel.

All this shows is that this is a fan-made channel that uploaded the video today and since the release year was mentioned for the first time, it had some fans excited and they decided to spread it around.

When Will The Last of Us Part 2 Get A Release Date?

There is a very solid chance that next E3 will give us a release date for The Last of Us Part 2. Back at PSX 2017, we learned that the game’s development is 60% complete and while it is a rather arbitrary number without knowing the details, it shows promise of the final game launching in 2019 or early 2020. We will have to wait for E3 2019 to get an official word from Sony but there is some precedent that basically shows how Sony has marketed and released their games.
